グレイトフル・デッドの長く奇妙な旅 シーズン１ (字幕版)

先月、米英amazonのプライムビデオでストリーミング上映が開始されていたGrateful Deadの新作ドキュメンタリー映画、"Long Strange Trip" が日本のamazonプライムビデオでも「グレイトフル・デッドの長く奇妙な旅」という邦題で公開されています（日本語字幕入り）。以下はamazon.co.jpのトレーラー。

ヒッピー／サイケ文化にも関連の深いビート詩人のAllen Ginsbergが1970年にMGMからリリースしたアルバム、"Songs of Innocence and Experience"がCD2枚組の「完全盤」としてOmnivoreから6月23日に再発されます。本作は、18世紀末に出版されたWilliam Blakeの同名詩集をAllenが（朗読ではなく）「歌ってしまった」というモンドなレコード。ある意味でサイケ度（脳みそ捩れ度）高し。Disc 2には1971年にArthur Russellとともに録音した続編などが収録されています。

LHI (Lee Hazlewood Industries) のレーベルコンピボックス、"There's a Dream I've Been Saving"に、シングルの "The Lady Barber / Rose Colored Corner" が収録されていた、Lynn Castleの新譜コンピレーションがLight in the Atticからリリースされます（6月9日発売予定）。

曲のタイトルが示すように、LynnはLAで最初の女性Barber（男性の調髪をする理髪師）となった人物で、作曲したり歌ったりするのは、極私的な趣味としておこなっていたそうです。Del Shannon, Monkees, Byrdsらの整髪の仕事をしていたのが縁で、たまたま彼女の歌を聴いたLee Hazlewoodに気に入られ、（サイケファンには"Phase 1"でお馴染みの）Mike Condelloのバンド、Last Friday's Fireをバックに起用した唯一のシングルを1967年にLHIからリリースしています。

今回のコンピには、そのシングルAB面の2曲のほか、Jack Nitzscheとともに録音した未発表デモ10曲が収録されています。試聴はこちら。

Grateful Deadのドキュメンタリーフィルム、"Long Strange Trip"のサントラ盤が、映画公開予定の5月26日にRhinoからリリースされます。通常盤はCD2枚組ですが、上記のAmazonオリジナルはボーナスディスクを追加したCD3枚組となっています。

このドキュメンタリーは約4時間におよぶ大作で、今年1月にサンダンス映画祭でプレミア上映されました。監督はAmir Bar-Lev、プロデューサーのひとりにBill Kreutzmannの息子のJustin Kreutzmann、製作総指揮にMartin Scorseseがクレジットされています。また、Amazon（プライム）ビデオでは6月2日からストリーム上映開始が予定されています。

レココレ・サイケ号でも紹介されていた101 Stringsのモンドサイケ名盤、"Astro Sounds from Beyond the Year 2000" が4月22日のレコードストアデイ限定で再発されます（ボーナスはなし）。故Jerry Coleの権利者から承認を得た正規リイシューということで、ジャケが変更されて101 Stringsのクレジットが削除されています（でも、ストリングス・パートは残されていて、そのへんの権利関係はどうなってるんでしょうか？）。

このレコードの成り立ちは複雑怪奇で、簡単に箇条書きすると・・・
１．Wrecking Crewの一員として活躍したセッションギタリストのJerry Coleが、1966～67年に一連のサイケなセッション音源を残す（1967年にRCAからリリースされたThe Idの"Inner Sounds of the Id"はその成果）。
２．プロデューサーのPaul Arnoldが、それらの音源を勝手に持ち出して、あちこちのレコード会社に売り払う。
３．Alshireというバジェットレコードレーベルがその音源を利用して、Animated Eggという架空のバンドをでっちあげて1967年にアルバムをリリース（2008年にSundazedからボーナスを多数追加したコンピ "Guitar Freakout"として正規イシュー）。
４．そのAnimated Eggのアルバム全曲をそっくりそのまま再利用して、Alshireのドル箱アーティストだった101 Stringsの弦をかぶせ、エフェクトをほどこし、曲名と曲順を変えて1968年にリリースされたのが、この"Astro Sounds from Beyond the Year 2000"。

インチキレコードの権化みたいな感じですが、これが最高にグルーヴィーな音になっているのが60sマジックなんでしょう。2008年に亡くなる数年前まで、Jerryは自分の録音がカルト的な支持を得ていたことを知らずにいたのでした。試聴はこちら。

Years (Expanded Edition)

シンコーのディスクガイド「アシッドフォーク」で紹介されていたMarc Jonsonのデビュー作"Years" (1972) が、Real Gone Musicから初のリイシュー（ノンアルバムシングルなど4曲のボーナス入り）。本作はVanguardレーベルのカタログの中でも、最もレア度＆トレジャー度の高いタイトルのひとつと言われていますが、アコギ一本の弾き語り物かと思えばさにあらず。バッグバンドやストリングス入りの、バロックポップ～ポップサイケ的な色合いもそなえた、意外にカラフルな印象の作品です。

Marcは高校卒業後にレーベルと契約を交わし、アルバム制作時はまだ二十歳くらいだったらしい。セルフプロデュースによる本作は、ほとんど自主制作に近いような状況だったようで、彼自身でストリングスのプレーヤーやアレンジャーを雇い、前日のクラシック音楽家のセッションで残されていたハープシコードを使ったり、街のストリートで出遭ったリコーダー奏者を連れて来たりしています（下の動画でそのリコーダーが聴けますが、これがなかなかサイケな味わい）。

そのへんの手作り感と、自己の才能をもてあましているような不確定感が、このアルバムの魅力のひとつにもなっています。Tim Buckley, Phil Ochs, Neil Youngといった先輩諸氏のみならず、英国のAl Stewartあたりからの影響もうかがえる楽曲には随所に天性のポップセンスが光り、のちの1992年にはMark Johnson名義でパワーポップアルバム "12 in a Room"を発表して、一部では高い評価を得ています。

Pearls Before Swine
City of Gold/Beautiful Lies You Could Live In

Tom RappのPearls Before Swineが1971年にRepriseからリリースした2枚のアルバム、"City of Gold"と"Beautiful Lies You Could Live In"をカップリングした2in1がBGOからリリース。さすがにこの頃になると楽曲自体のサイケ度は低くなり、ルーツロック的な要素が強まるんですが、私には「トムの歌声＝サイケ」というのが刷り込まれているので、やっぱりアシッド臭を強く感じてしまいます。女性ボーカル（奥さんのElisabeth Rapp）も入っていて、けっこうよく聴いていました。

スーパー・サイケデリック(紙ジャケット仕様)

Venturesの"Super Psychedelics" (1967) が、Mono＋Stereo両バージョンを収録した紙ジャケ仕様のSHM-CDで再発（オリジナルアナログテープによる2017年最新リマスター音源使用）。これは当時のサイケブームに乗っかった「企画もの」的なアルバムなんですが、その微妙な便乗具合が逆にサイケ的に美味しいものになっています。

"Strawberry Fields Forever"、"Western Union"、"Happy Together" などの有名曲のインストカバーに、"Psychedelic Venture"、"Guitar Psychedelics"、"Psyched-Out" といった、いかにもなタイトルのオリジナル曲（12曲中7曲）。要所ではファズギターやシタール、チープオルガンやサイケなエフェクトが登場する「いかものサイケ」の名作。
